In the footsteps of the “Lioness of Italy”, one of the oldest bands of our country, the “Circolo Musicale Banda “Leoncini D’Abruzzo””1 was established in 1986 by maestro Ezio Di Luzio and the presidency of Mr. Antonio Botticchio. The current president is Mr. Paride di Nicola. Since 1995, maestro Paolo Alfano has been the Director of the music school, the band and wind orchestra, while maestro Nicolino Rosati has been deputy director.
The Wind Orchestra has taken part in national and international competitions, achieving countless successes: L’Aquila (1990), Malgrat de Mar-Barcellona (Spain, 2002, first place), Frosinone “La bacchetta d’oro”, Francavilla al Mare-Chieti (2004, second place), Scandicci-Firenze (2005, first place), Laino-Borgo Cosenza (2009, first place), Giulianova-Teramo (2010, award for best Italian band), Cascina di Pisa (2010, first place), Spalato-Croazia (2014, third place). It was conducted by artists such as Jacob de Haan, Jan Van der Roost and Josè Alcacer Dura.
Honours received: the Silver Medal from the President of the Republic Giorgio Napolitano, the Gold Medal for Civil Merit from the city of L’Aquila, Honours from the Italian Community in Canada and from the town of Niagara Falls (Canada), ‘”AZ Award” Amore e Zelo’ from the town of Avezzano (Aq), Invitation to the “Columbus Day” from the city of New York (USA), Achievement for Merits from the town of Pescina (Aq), Solemn commendation from the mountain community “Valle del Giovenco” Pescina (Aq).
