After a twenty-year break, the wind band was formed in December 2000, with the help of the old members, the present students and teachers of the local music and art school and with the support of the local government of Kisújszállás. The conductor of the band is János Szálkai. The band regularly takes part in different festivals and entertaining programs that take place in Kisújszállás and in its neighbouring towns. Much to the delight of the town people, the band gives its own concerts from time to time.

In 2003, they visited Eberschwang, Austria, which is a partner town of Kisújszállás, and where they successfully propagated Hungarian wind band music. The band took part in numerous regional wind band festivals, for example in Abony, Szigetvár and Csökmo.

Mellofon Wind Band could become a regular participant of national festivals with the help of the wind band of Csenki Imre Elementary Art School in Püspökladány. In 2007, 2008, 2010 and 2012 they together took part in the Flower Carnival in Debrecen
